MBF Supports Workshops in Preparation for Summer

The past three months have been full of work for our local partner Alternare, carrying out workshops among the communities who will be participating in the 2013 summer reforestation season.  We are eager to plant trees and improve the monarchs’ overwintering sites so they can keep coming back!

During March, April, and June Alternare held nine workshops focused on the construction of cisterns and fuel-efficient stoves.  We are currently building a new type of cistern, called the “capuchino” which has the capacity to store 20,000 liters of water and have a longer life span than the previous ones. A total of 220 women and 110 men participated in seven cistern-building workshops, and built 12 cisterns in schools and three in the communities. The two workshops on fuel-efficient stoves resulted in the construction of four community stoves and 13 for individual families. Eighteen women and four men participated in these workshops.

Our reports usually coincide with GlobalGiving’s Bonus Days and this month is no exception. On Wednesday, June 12th GlobalGiving will match donations at 40% starting at 9:00 am EDT (this time in your city).

This month we are also following Gerardo Segundo Sanchez, a campesino instructor, on Facebook as he goes along his daily activities conducting conservation workshops in the communities.

For more details about our projects please visit our website where you can also sign up to receive our biannual electronic newsletter.

Thank you for your continued support. Together we are making a difference in the lives of the communities and preserving the extraordinary beauty of the amazing monarch migration.

Reports are sent to donors every three months but if you do not wish to receive them click on the unsubscribe link in this email or login to your GlobalGiving account and change your email preferences.
