Hi,
I am very thankful to present our third report of the project - Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India via GlobalGiving.
Lot of things happened with our special children since last report in our special schools. Last three months were full of activities. Major activities were district level sports competitions and celebration of annual day. Jeevdan Special School secured Ist place in Sindhudurg district with 38 prizes and Anugraha Special School became 1st in Khed District with 21 prizes. Children did remarkably well on the occasion of annual day celebration. We also celebrated World Disability Day on December 2017 with much warmth and enthusiasm. There were rallies and various programs in all the schools. Children joyously celebrated Christmas and welcomed New Year.
Let me share you some stories of improvement…
Pragati (name changed) an eight year old girl child with cerebral palsy and moderate intellectual disability, was admitted to Jeevdan Special School on 23rd June 2017. Child was not able to walk independently. Her eye-hand co-ordination and fine motor functioning was very poor that she was not able to eat and drink properly. After eight months of physiotherapy there is notable progress in her gross and fine motor skills that she is able to walk independently and eat and drink properly. She studies in primary group. She has made remarkable advance in activities of daily living. Because of speech therapy she has improved her communication skills and is able to express her needs in meaningful and clear sentences. She mixes well with peer group and participated in soft ball throw in the district level competitions for children with intellectual disabilities.
Sneha (name changed), an eight year old girl child with Down syndrome, was admitted to Jeevdan Special School on 23rd June 2016. At present she studies in primary group. Child was finding it difficult to mix or speak with peer group. After one and a half years of speech therapy and special education she easily mixes with children, greets people and speaks in small sentences. She has made significant improvement in self-help skills. She is very much interested in music and dance. She participated in the annual day dance programs and in district level sports meet for children with intellectual disabilities. Parents are overwhelmed by the progress of the child.
So far we have raised $9943 since last June 2017 towards this project. We are very happy to tell you that GlobalGiving has acknowledged Sangli Mission Society with two badges like Top Ranked Organization and Vetted Organization. It is a good news that there are new donors coming in to support the special children. You know that we had a micro project named Vocational Center for Disabled Youth in India. We could raise $ 6178 towards it and construction of the centre is progressing well.
We have two recurring donors at present. We value you support very important and precious. Thank you very much for your interest and support for our project. Please feel free to visit our website www.sanglimissionsociety.org
