Its you who motivate us to do more!!!

By Fr Roshan Varghese | Project Leader

I am very happy to present our second report of our project - Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India via GlobalGiving.

As you know we are continuing with the project Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India evenafter the successful completion of June accelerator 2017. You know, rehabilitation of the intellectually disabled is a process and it takes lot of time and patience to reap result. I am very happy to tell you that our children are doing excellently well, the teachers are working very hard and at the same time the students are enjoying training with immense pleasure. The project is continued with your kind support…we received a disbursement of $507.5 from GlobalGiving for August and September 2017. I appreciate your kindness for the same!!!

Let me tell you some success stories…

Swagat (name changed) is hailing from a very poor family. He lost his mother a couple of years ago. His father very weak with health problems. He has a sister and a brother. His brother and sister are also with low IQ and they all assist their dad in the household works. Swapnil was admitted in Anugraha Special School a couple of years ago. He learned to read and write and also learned counting numbers. He is provided with speech therapy as he has issues in speech. At present there is  lot of improvement in his communication. He is very good at sports. He won a second prize in running competition at the district level. Now he is learning tailoring.  After joining our school he got self – confidence and courage. Its nice to see that he is improving day by day.

Tabu (name changed) is from a very poor family. Her father is an auto rickshaw-driver. She has a brother and a sister who are school drop outs due to the financial constraint of the family.  She was admitted in Anugraha special school when she was eight years old. She has learned to count up to one hundred. She is physically handicapped also. With the help of Physio-therapy she is now able to move around with the help of a wheel chair. She is also able to move by herself on level grounds and floors even without a wheel chair.  She attends our vocational training programme and started learning basic computer.

Pallavi (name changed) was admitted to Jeevdan Special School in 2013 at the age of six. She was totally dependent for all her needs. She had no toilet control. After four years of continuous training she has become independent to a great extent in activities of daily living and has developed toilet timing and control.  She also made progress in communication, gross motor and fine motor skills. She is an enthusiastic student of the school.

Please do remember our children when you celebrate Christmas. I am also happy to invite you to become a monthly donor if possible. We value you support very important and your support motivates us.

We have also started constructing a centre for Special Adults for vocational training at Veral, Khed, Ratnagiri, India. It is partially funded  but we are unable to complete the construction with this amount and we have started raising funds for the same form different sources. As part of this move we have uploaded a micro-project in GlobalGiving so that we may be able to raise $9425 within next 53 days. Name of the project is Vocational Center for Disabled Youth in India. You can find this project as you open the existing project. Please have a look at this if you have time.

Thank you very much for your interest and support for our project. Please feel free to visit our website www.sanglimissionsociety.org
