Greetings to all our wonderful donors. Thank you for believing in us and supporting our mission of sheltering girls’ victims of traumatic experiences. It is our main goal to provide a safe environment, make them feel in a family environment while we work on helping them heal their trauma.
It is the time of the year that we need to prepare for an active hurricane season at the Atlantic Ocean. The season started in June 1st and last until November 30th. After learning from a great experience like the Hurricane Maria, it our aim to assure that we can grant the power supply to the organization during an emergency like that. In Maria, many places in Puerto Rico, including our location, stayed without power for more months. We were able to maintain the electricity through an industrial generator. This equipment allowed us to continue the services to the population served.
We have completed a full maintenance of the equipment at a cost of $10,000 are happy to report that we are ready for the Hurricane Season. Power generator and Water Cisterns are ready to run in case of a water or electricity shortage. In terms safety, solar spotlights were installed throughout he facility.
Regarding other repairs at the Hogar we proud to announce that we completed the transformation of the living room in one of the houses into a bedroom to accommodate any participant with mobility challenges. The room is wheelchair accessible and bathroom included.
The construction of a ramp to comply with the ADA Act is still pending. More funds are needed to complete this phase. We encourage our donors to support us in this endeavor to provide equal access for people with disabilities. Thank you and God Bless!
