Harlem Meadows came to Paws New England at 11 years young. He was a shelter favorite in Tennessee, and Paws New England has a soft spot for seniors in need of retirement homes. We don’t know much about this boy’s past 11 years, but we sure know a lot about his future! Harlem’s story with Paws New England starts with a photo of his funny large ears and frosty face. They caught the attention of our intake coordinator. One of our foster parents lost their own frosty dog the very same day that Harlem’s photo came up. Our intake coordinator hesitated, and admitted via text that it may not be appropriate to share the photo -but this boy just had this foster family written all over his face. Harlem came that weekend to his foster home and the first day was tough. Harlem was tired - he had been on a 26 hour trip from Memphis. He had five foster siblings all around his size, and his foster mom was still quite sad. Harlem had some scabs on his body and those big sonar ears. He didn’t like being disturbed while he was sleeping (can’t really blame him) and would growl. Harlem was clearly used to being outside most of the time and found comfort and pleasure in wandering and sniffing. After a week of decompression, good food and comfy couches and dog beds - Harlem started to get comfortable. He REALLY liked his foster dad who was working on a bunch of projects outside and Harlem liked that foster dad was hanging out where he was comfortable. Soon, Harlem discovered these great things called TOYS, and his foster dad started to say that maybe Harlem was their newest addition. One day, Harlem’s foster mom presented him with a brand new toy- a stuffed dinosaur with a squeaker. Harlem was thrilled with his newest favorite toy, and decided foster mom was his new favorite person just as much as foster dad. That was the end of
