Nesting season brings hope for parrots

Dear Friend,

You have been the source of hope for 12 baby parrots that successfully made flight into the forest with their family. Each season we work hard to monitor nests and to engage with communities to protect the critically endangered yellow-naped Amazon parrot. This past 2024 season was no exception. Although we lost several nests due to poaching and invasive bees, our persistence paid off. Three farming families benefited by receiving incentive payments, six nests were protected, and we monitored the general population through the Christmas Bird Count and our monthly surveys, finding a slow, but consistent increase in the parrot population. Thank you!

The rainy season is finally coming to a close and so now we are beginning to clean out nests from the previous parrot nesting season. We look for nest cavities with signs of invasive bees and also remove excessive debris from inside the nest that could cause mold.

Your support last year made all the difference to our parrot conservation program in Nicaragua, which is in its fifteenth year, but its third year without any major funder backing the program. It is through people like you that we can power this program, providing jobs to local biologists and technicians, and enabling the critically endangered yellow-naped Amazon to survive.

Thank you so much. Please consider making a donation to this campaign on #GivingTuesday.

Sincerely,
