It's been nearly a year since this crisis began. Rohingya refugees continue to face unimaginable challenges.
Torrential rains are hitting refugee camps in Bangladesh where more than 700,000 Rohingya people have sought shelter, after fleeing violence and intimidation in Myanmar. The floods and landslides have destroyed makeshift homes of bamboo, plastic, and clay, inundated the sewage systems, blocked off routes for emergency aid, and spread disease.
Before the rains started, we had already provided emergency support for thousands of people, relocating the most flood-prone families, training Rohingya volunteers in flood response, and conducting drainage management around shelters, washrooms, food distribution areas, and women’s spaces. You made this emergency relief possible - thank you.
But the storms are not letting up, and thousands of Rohingya families are still at risk. Children, pregnant women, and elderly people are particularly struggling to make it through the floodwaters to get food, clean drinking water, and medical attention. Together, we can do even more to support Rohingya refugees.
Even in these conditions, Rohingya refugees are resilient and determined to protect their rights – leading the emergency response, reconstructing shelters, and trekking through torrential downpours and thick mud to care for their families.
Give now, and show the Rohingya community that you walk with them.
Sincerely,
Marie
