Tasneem is a young Syrian refugee woman living in Shatila camp in Beirut. After fleeing the war in Syria with her family, she settled in the camp, where living conditions are often harsh and opportunities are limited—especially for women. Despite the challenges, Tasneem remained determined to improve her situation and contribute meaningfully to her community. Always passionate about nature and sustainability, Tasneem dreamed of developing a green space where she could grow her own vegetables and herbs.
Recognizing her motivation and potential, Jafra stepped in through its rooftop gardening initiative aimed at promoting food security and self-sufficiency. With dedication and guidance, Tasneem transformed her rooftop into a vibrant garden, producing fresh greens, herbs, and vegetables for her family.
What began as a personal project soon became a source of pride and stability. Tasneem now saves on grocery expenses and enjoys healthier, home-grown food. She has even begun sharing tips and seedlings with her neighbors, inspiring other women in the camp to start their own rooftop gardens.
Tasneem’s journey is a powerful reminder that with support, training, and belief in one’s abilities, even the smallest rooftop can become a space for growth, healing, and resilience. Your continued support can help more women like Tasneem turn rooftops into sources of hope, nourishment, and community transformation.
