We are thrilled to share a major milestone: thanks to your generous support, we’ve raised the roof on our new primary school building! Your contributions have made it possible to complete a much-needed roof and fully restore the structure to safe, secure standards.
In addition to the roof, we’ve accomplished the following:
Structural repairs are complete, ensuring safety for our students and staff.
A disability access ramp now connects all three levels of the building, promoting inclusivity.
Six new rooms on the second floor are nearly complete, meaning every class—up to Grade 6—will now have its own dedicated space.
A future-ready library and computer lab are coming to life! These will serve not only our students but the surrounding community as well.
A recent delivery of 30 donated computers—brought to Uganda by our Spring Break service team from the U.S.—is helping us take big strides toward launching these new resources.
Next Up: Water Sustainability
As we wrap up roofing and interior work, we’re turning our focus to installing two 10,000-liter rainwater harvesting tanks. These tanks will collect rainwater from the new roof, providing a sustainable, cost-saving water source for the school. This eco-friendly system reduces our dependence on National Water and allows us to redirect funds toward directly benefiting our students.
What’s Ahead: Boarding & Bathrooms
To support students in Uganda’s upper primary grades (P.5 and P.6), we are now fundraising for:
Two sets of bathrooms (one on each of the upper levels)
Basic boarding facilities for boys and girls
Boarding is the standard in Uganda for students in Primary 6 and 7, as it allows for more focused study time beyond the regular school day. Without this option, enrollment in our upper grades may continue to decline. These additions will ensure students can remain in school and thrive academically.
Coming This Week: Volunteers on the Ground!
A team of 9 volunteers from the U.S. and Germany arrived in Uganda in Uganda on April 12th to celebrate over a decade of Rukundo’s impact! During their time on the ground, they’ll:
Cook Ugandan street food and host an Easter celebration for hundreds of Kids Sunday participants
Lead art, science, crafts, and reading activities with our 270 Rukundo Preparatory School students
Host a reusable sanitary pad-making workshop for girls in our Empowerment Program
Launch a new Agricultural Co-op by distributing goats to our P.5 and P.6 families
Help launch our new library and computer lab with donated books and tech
Go on safari at Queen Elizabeth National Park
And SO. MUCH. MORE!
