Help Educate Women & Girls in Afghanistan

Greetings friends and supporters.

We are making great progress toward our fundraising goal for this Afghan girls school with your help and a generous boost from matching funds made available by the Safer World Fund, announced on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Their goal: provide education, health care, and economic opportunity to counter the influence of extremists in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries. They want to build a world in which the appeal of lives lived in dignity, opportunity, and hope triumphs over the allure of extremism and its use of terrorist tactics. Thank you Safer World Fund!

3 for 1 on October 19th. October 19th will be a special day for our fundraising efforts, for three reasons. First, the Safer World Fund's match will still be available.  The Fund will match up to $2,000 in donations from any individual donor. 

Second, GlobalGiving has announced that they will be adding a 30% match to donations made to all projects on October 19th. So on that date a donation to our project will be matched at 80%! Total matching funds are limited to $100,000; the earlier the donation the better.

Third, donations made on that date will help our project in The Girl Effect Challenge, which runs from October 15th to November 15th. Any donation made during that period will help us achieve the goal of being featured on The Girl Effect's fundraising page at Global Giving, and receiving a share of all donations made to The Girl Effect for a full year.

With your help, we've made more progress at the school since its dedication in May. Among other things, we bought the materials for the desks and expect them to be completed by the end of October. As of the date of this report, we still need about $28,000 to complete the work we have planned. Please help if you can!

Ayni Education International founder Julie Bolz and executive director Ginna Brelsford have just returned from a trip to Afghanistan.  During their three weeks in Mazar-i-Sharif , they helped dedicate the largest school project. The school, constructed with local Afghan labor under the guidance of Ayni’s on the ground partner, Afghanistan-American Friendship Foundation, was completed in May. The school will house over 3,000 girls and is expected to grow to 4,000 within the year. While the school is now completed, desks are desperately needed along with fans. As we raise additional funds, they will pay for a number of other exciting projects we have planned for the school, including a playground and the addition of a kindergarten.

Your continued interests and support help educate girls in Afghanistan in an environment that fosters learning as a way to develop society and deepen girls’ understanding of their options in life. When Julie Bolz asked one girl what she wanted to be when she grew up she said, “A doctor of course.”
