“Expand and supply a school for 3,000+ Afghan girls“ was selected as one of 10 projects to be included in the Safer World Fund on GlobalGiving starting on September 1, 2012. As part of the Fund, the project will be eligible for a 50% match on all donations from any individual donor up to $2,000 until the $50,000 in matching funds are used up.
The Safer World Fund (formerly the philanthropic arm of Our Voices Together) began as a response of family and friends of loved ones killed in the terrorist acts of 9/11. It is now engaging many people who recognize how individuals can help fight terrorism. By supporting basic education, vocational training, and health care, these projects offer opportunities to impoverished people in the poorest areas of the world, especially girls and women.
Thanks partly to support received for this project, the two women liaisons hired by Ayni are visiting this school on a regular basis. They are working to get information and stories from students at the school. This is a new role and it is coming along. We are specifically focused on what the girls do when they graduate from the school.
We also purchased a ladder for the school, permitting access to the roof for repairs, and snow removal.
As reported earlier, the school is highly utilized. During morning classes 24 classrooms are used, and afternoon classes need 30. The school leaders have asked for tents to help with students who are sitting outside during the afternoon session. We have brought this to the attention of the Ministry of Education.
We are working to get a much needed computer center at the school, as well as conduct maintenance on the facilities. All donations for this school are immensely appreciated; we will continue to put them to great use!
