Introducing Our Virtual Tour Film & Video Project to Gather More Supporters

Greetings from the Maruki Gallery for the Hiroshima Panels! We hope this finds you well!

Throughout this year, we have been meeting with the architects and the art restorer to discuss how to save the Hiroshima Panels. Due to the spread of COVID-19 and busy schedule of the experts, our progress has been at a slower pace than expected. We aim to make an official announcement about the concrete plans early next year. Meanwhile, we continue to receive support from our supporters both in Japan and abroad (both through GlobalGIving and other means). We are so grateful.

Today, we would like to share our film & video projects. Both are meant to support our efforts to restore and preserve the Hiroshima Panels by sharing the stories and drawing attention to the works of the Marukis as well as the current situation of the Gallery.

We have been working to create a virtual tour film since August. This virtual tour film introduces you to the world of the Maruki Gallery through the eyes of a young girl who visits the Gallery for the first time.

Through the film, you will encounter not only the Hiroshima Panels but also people who have crossed paths with the Marukis and those who were influenced by their works. We have finished most of the shooting, and the final part of shooting will take place in January 2021 when the panels that are on loan to other museums come back to the gallery.

Here are some photos to share from the making of the film (below).

We are planning to release the complete film in early spring of 2021! We hope this will be a tool to attract broad interest in our efforts to save the Hiroshima Panels.

We are also creating a short video to share the historical and social importance of the Hiroshima Panels as well as the current situation that we are facing. The video will be shared on this GlobalGIving project page, our official website, and SNS posts.

Thank you again for all of your support! We will keep you posted on our progress!

With gratitude,
