Project Report | Mar 16, 2021
Plans for the restoration and construction

By Yumi Iwasaki | Project Leader

Greetings from the Maruki Gallery for the Hiroshima Panels!

In this report, we will share the progress and plans for the restoration and construction, as well as updates on our overall fundraising efforts.

Planning of the restoration and construction

Last year, we had to suspend some of the meetings planned for the restoration of the Hiroshima Panels and the construction of the new gallery building due to COVID-19. Also, we needed to focus more on the management of the gallery as we coped with difficult situations caused by the pandemic, and we were forced to slow down the process.

This year, we have held more meetings and are making concrete plans. We have had experts analyze some of the paintings to prepare for the restoration, and we are in the process of making CG perspective drawings of the new building. We should be able to share the drawings in our next report! We are also calculating and adjusting the cost and budget, which gives us realistic goals for this project. Slowly but surely, we are making progress!

Fundraising update

As we mentioned in the project description, this project on GlobalGiving will fund part of the Maruki Gallery's Preservation Project. We would like to keep you informed on the overall progress of our fundraising efforts. As of December 22, 2020 (last official count), we received 153,699,006 Japanese Yen (approx. 1,407,000 USD) in 6,033 donations. We are over half way to our fundraising goal for the entire project to restore and preserve the Hiroshima Panels and construct a new gallery building.

We will keep up our efforts to save the Hiroshima Panels as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your support for this preservation project! We will keep you posted!
