Living Sea Walls is an innovative concept designed to transform traditional sea walls into vibrant, thriving ecosystems. By incorporating specially designed panels with various structures, we create habitats where marine life can settle, grow, and flourish. These panels are strategically placed both above and below the ocean's surface, often along sea walls in harbors and coastal areas.

The goal of Living Sea Walls is to turn static, artificial structures into dynamic environments that promote biodiversity. Above the waterline, these walls may host plants and other organisms that thrive in tidal zones, while below the surface, they provide shelter and food for a variety of marine species. The panels encourage the growth of kelp, seaweed, and other aquatic plants, while also offering homes for mussels, shellfish, and smaller marine creatures.

By rebuilding marine habitats in these often-neglected areas, Living Sea Walls help restore ecosystems, improve water quality, and support marine biodiversity. This approach turns human-made infrastructure into a valuable asset for the environment, promoting sustainable solutions for both nature and coastal communities.

We are proud to have already built Living Sea Walls in Sydney, Australia, and Bournemouth, UK, and are now looking to expand our impact to more locations around the world. We have exciting plans for new walls in Cape Town, South Africa, Cork, Ireland, and another site in the UK. These projects are an important step in advancing our mission to restore marine ecosystems and promote biodiversity in coastal areas.

However, each wall costs approximately £100,000, and we need to raise funds to continue this vital work. In addition to the construction costs, ongoing funding is required to monitor, track, and assess the effectiveness of the walls. This is done through our university research partnerships with leading institutions: the University of New South Wales (Australia), University College Cork (Ireland), and University of Cape Town (South Africa). Together, we are committed to researching the long-term impact of the Living Sea Walls and reporting back on the success of these projects to ensure they continue to thrive and deliver environmental benefits.
