An estimated 78,000 Nigerians die from cancer each year, primarily due to late detection and inadequate access to care. Even when cancer is detected, many patients face financial barriers and lack comprehensive health insurance, making it difficult for them to access timely treatment.
In Nigeria, many indigent cancer patients earn less than $2 a day, making cancer treatment unaffordable. In their determination to live, patients and their loved ones often sell their properties to raise money to access treatment. However, due to the high treatment cost, many patients get stuck halfway, unable to afford the remaining treatment, which leads to treatment inconsistencies, which often result in poor outcomes or even death.
The St. Cyril Initiative for Patient Support (SCIPS) will provide financial and emotional support to indigent cancer patients, ensuring that patients have access to quality care, and reduced treatment inconsistencies. With your financial support, we will raise funds to ensure that no indigent cancer patients have to face this fight alone.
This project will provide 20 cancer patients access to care, and reduce the period between diagnosis and treatment significantly improving their prognosis and reducing the mortality rate of cancer in Nigeria and Africa.
