Life after Eta and Iota arrived at the port of Tela
It has been almost two months since we were affected not only by the pandemic that has affected us worldwide, but also natural events such as Hurricane ETA and IOTA that both arrived with a difference of one week.
We fell back to where we were initially at zero, COVID, high unemployment, lack of government help for each of the inhabitants of the port of Tela – Honduras, hunger, the need for humans play a major factor in increasing abandoned dogs and cats right now, people don't have money to keep their pets and end up throwing them to the streets for lack of resources.
In what we have been taking from October 2020 to today we have collected more than 5 dogs in gestation leaving us with an excess of puppies never seen before in our organization. Adoptions have come down for the same cause. don't work, not money for keeping a pet.
In November 2020 our shelter began to provide assistance to the hundreds of cats abandoned in sewers, boxes or simply leaving them adrift.
Right now we are out of capacity in both Dogs and Cats, we no longer only have the costs of rent, medicine, food and maintenance of one place but two.
Which leads to our search for land to build our own place back on hold.
Probably when people return to work, when the economy goes up, adoptions go up, abandonments go down we can think about searching and buying our own land, for now all we have left is to keep helping with how little we have the hundreds of stray animals right now around us in the harbor.
we are happy to be able to help as we have during this time of crisis not only for stray animals but also for the muhas low-income families we have helped to keep their pets in their homes, while we recover.
Hope we can keep counting with your donations and one day we can say WE DID IT, WE OWN OUR OWN PLACE !
Thanks to all you
