Sarisambo lower secondary school is inaugurated!

By Sharone Houssenaly | Programmes and Office Assistant

The Sarisambo School Project, led by SEED Madagascar, aimed to enhance education and health infrastructure in Sarisambo by constructing new school buildings and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities. The project successfully built two school buildings, providing five new weather-resistant classrooms. Thanks to your support, 27 teachers and 726 students at Sarisambo primary and lower secondary schools now have a suitable environment for teaching and learning.

The project has significantly impacted the local community by providing a safer, more efficient learning environment and promoting sustainable hygiene practices. Five existing latrines were repaired, and ten additional gender-segregated latrines were constructed. Menstrual hygiene facilities were also established, ensuring students have privacy and dignity. Additionally, the installation of two 10,000-litre rainwater harvesting systems ensures a reliable source of clean water, supporting healthy hygiene practices. These improvements have greatly reduced the transmission of WASH-related illnesses and created a healthier school environment. This success sets a strong foundation for future educational projects in the region.

The school buildings and WASH facilities have been designed to withstand extreme weather and require minimal maintenance. This sustainability and longevity, along with the training that SEED provides to teachers, ensures that these facilities can operate independently for years to come.

The most recent milestone in the Sarisambo School Project was the official inauguration of the Sarisambo Lower Secondary School on June 25th, coinciding with Madagascar's Independence Day celebrations. Speeches from the Village Leader, Head Teacher, Mayor of Sarisambo, and SEED's Head of Schools highlighted the project's achievements. The inauguration showcased the improved educational infrastructure and the community's appreciation.

With your help, SEED hopes to continue this critical work over the next several years, building on the success of the Sarisambo School Project and ultimately empowering students. We thank you for your support in helping us create lasting change in the communities of Anosy.
