Self Defence for 1000 young girls in Nagpur, India

With more than 400,000 new infections every day, India is now the global epicentre of the pandemic. The new corona virus variant is deadlier and spreading like wildfire acrosse the Indian subcontinent. This has pushed hospitals in India far beyond their capacity, some on the brink of collapse. Hospitals have reported extreme shortage of medical oxygen and ventilators for COVID patients. Non- COVID patients are impacted too due to the immense pressure on India’s health infratsructure. Its paucity has shot up the prices to unimaginable levels, a massive blow to the pockets of poverty stricken families.

Our Self Defence Trainers, Anita and Manisha from Nagpur have fallen prey to the virus. Anita is in critical condition and currently in ICU. Her oxygen levels are falling. The doctors have asked for a hefty amount for her treatment. She has already spent her savings for her and her child's treatment who is also Covid positive.

People like her, with limited economic resources, have to bear the brunt of a collapsing health infrastructure.

Looking at the scenario, she might not be the only one impacted. The girls we work with come from disadvantaged families and cannot afford adequate medical support. The next few months look grim and while our girls and the trainers try to break the chain of infections by staying at home and taking all necessary precautions, we want to make sure that they receive enough support during the crisis.
