ADWAN’s beneficiaries are low-caste, marginalized, poor Nepali women andchildren. Most live in remote rural areas isolated by ignorance, gender bias and the caste system, as well as marginalized in their families and communities. In one of the poorest nations in the world, Dalit women and girls are among the most vulnerable and the last to receive any education.
In a society where simply being able to write one’s name makes one “literate”, literacy rate for Dalit women lies between 12 and 24%, compared to the national average of 64%. Furthermore, Dalit & other marginalized boyshave a dismal rate of school attendance; and even many high caste men are illiterate. This is significant because girls’ education and women’s empowerment cannot thrive in a hostile and regressive social climate. To create a supportive environment where women and girls can flourish, it is crucial to educate an entire community. ADWAN works to nurture the whole community by promoting Dalit & other marginalized boys’ schooling, and emphasizing human rights education, while encouraging women and girls to lead.
To date, ADWAN’s Global Giving campaign has raised $5,615 of its $15,000 goal to send 50 deserving girls to high school. These funds support schooling for 18 girls; but $9385 remains to be raised for the 32 deserving girls still waiting to receive funds to attend high school. Please share this link with your friends and relatives. It's a small-scale project that will make a big impact in the lives of many poor girls in rural Nepal.
We at ADWAN express profound gratitude for the consistent and generous support from kind-hearted people like you. Together, in partnership, we will continue to be an agent of change for Dalit as well as other marginalized, poor women and children in Nepal.
