Challenge

On a daily basis, VOWU receives 6 to 9 cases of victims seeking rescue, counseling, health care and legal aid advice. Currently, VOWU does not have a safe place where women run to when they want to keep away from the abusers and figure out an escape and/or coping plan. Some victims come with severe injuries and they need emergency treatment care before they can interface with the perpetuator.

Solution

VOWU will rescue victims who feel unsafe to stay in their homes for at least 3 to 5 days, provide emergency shelter, basic necessities and medical care, counseling and legal advice and support, aiming to ensure their safety, healing, and empowering them towards independent living.

Long-Term Impact

A Safe Home with services to enable women regain self-esteem, dignity and above all access to justice.
