July 2021 Update
Since the start of Special Hope Network's Community Outreach (CO) program, the CO team has reached local schools, teachers, and churches. Recently, they had to pause all trainings due to an increase in positive COVID-19 cases. This week, they have started back with a modified training approach to ensure trainings are safe for everyone. They resumed a local church training with half day sessions to reach 8-10 people in a large church hall. The participants were quizzed on the info they had learned before the manditory break and they had retained almost all the intro to disabilities information! This was very encouraging to our CO team. The participants are now learning about nutrition and wellness as it relates to specific disabilities.
These church trainings are important in continuing to equip the Lusaka community to include and advocate for people with disabilities. SHN continues to prioritize disability inclusion in local schools, and we believe educating community members as a whole around the imporantance of inclusion, will allow us to continue partnering with local teachers and schools to help prepare classrooms for chilidren of all abilities to grow and excel!
This is also the first week that our CO team is training additional SHN staff on how to lead the Disability Advocacy Trainings. Attached you'll see a photo that includes these additional staff learning alongside the church trainees.
Thank you for your partnership with our Community Outreach Team! We couldn't do this important work without YOU!
With love,
The Special Hope Network Team
