Education for Wayuu Women
In the past four months, the Wayuu Taya Foundation has focused on educating Wayuu women in the La Guajira region on the border of Venezuela and Colombia. We held several important talks and workshops to help with health, education, and preserving their culture, benefiting 118 women.
One important event was a talk for 38 women from 2 communities at Granja Apuna, in Mara Municipality, about the role of Wayuu women in their communities. This talk highlighted how important Wayuu women are and encouraged discussions on how they can have a more significant impact.
Another significant event was a women's health day in the Mara municipality. Here, 47 women from 22 communities attended a workshop on sexual and reproductive health, disease prevention, and pregnancy prevention. This event partnered with the Azul Positivo Foundation, providing expert advice and resources.
An oral health workshop was also held for 33 female teachers from 26 schools of 20 communities in Alta Guajira, located in the Guajira Municipality of Zulia State. This workshop aimed to teach these educators about oral hygiene so they can share this knowledge with their communities and promote better health.
In total, we conducted three major talks and workshops, benefiting 118 women from 44 different communities. These activities support the project's main goals of helping Wayuu women integrate professionally, get an education, and preserve their culture. By offering these workshops, the foundation continues to address issues like poverty, limited education, and cultural loss while also preserving the traditional skills and pride of the Wayuu community.
