Weaving a Future: Empowering Wayuu Women

Over the past few months, the Wayuu Taya Foundation has worked closely with Wayuu women in La Guajira to support their education, health, and cultural pride. We held three main sessions at Granja Apuna, in Mara Municipality, where 139 women from various communities came together to learn, share, and grow.

One of the standout events was an educational workshop for 30 Wayuu women. This workshop was all about helping them build confidence and skills and showing them how education can open doors and create more opportunities within their communities. The women participated in hands-on activities and discussions on leadership and personal growth.

We also organized two important health talks. The first one brought together 58 women from 19 communities and covered essential health tips and ways to stay healthy. The second session, attended by 51 women from 15 communities, explained practical health practices and easy ways to prevent common illnesses. Both talks aimed to spread valuable health knowledge that the women could take back and share with their families and neighbors.

We also provided women with vitamins and health supplies at each event to support overall wellness and ensure they had extra health support.

These three sessions positively impacted 139 Wayuu women, helping us move forward in our mission to support professional development, education, and cultural preservation.
