Weaving a Future: Empowering Wayuu Women

Over the past year, the Wayuu Taya Foundation has remained committed to empowering Wayuu women in La Guajira through education, health initiatives, and cultural preservation. Through a series of impactful workshops and discussions, we have directly supported 257 women from 44 different communities, helping to equip them with knowledge and resources to enhance their well-being and professional development.

Our efforts focused on three key areas: 

•                Education & Leadership: We conducted workshops emphasizing the importance of education, leadership, and personal growth. 68 Wayuu women participated in these sessions, gaining confidence and practical skills to help them thrive in their communities.
•                Health & Wellness: Health remained a priority, with targeted sessions on sexual and reproductive health, disease prevention, and overall wellness. Across multiple events, 156 women attended discussions to promote healthier lifestyles and share valuable information with their families. Additionally, participants received vitamins and health supplies to support their well-being.
•                Oral Health & Hygiene: To expand health education, we provided an oral health workshop for 33 female educators from 26 schools across 20 communities. These teachers now have essential knowledge to pass on to their students, fostering long-term health improvements in their communities.

Throughout the year, we held six major workshops and educational sessions, reaching women from both the Mara Municipality and Alta Guajira. These initiatives align with our mission to support Wayuu women in professional integration, education, and cultural preservation.
