Empower Survivors through Microentrepreneurship

By Jamils Richard Achunji Anguaseh | Project Supervisor

The Trafficking Survivors Empowerment project of GLOWA seeks to considerably reduce the number of survivors who fall for secondary trafficking and engage survival sex work for livelihood. The project shall systematically transform survivors into entrepreneurs and counter trafficking activist. The execution strategy is in the following stages

  • Identification of participants and business planning
  • Incubation
  • Start-up grants
  • Mentorship and business training

The project reporting period runs from July to September 2020. During this period GLOWA received USD 1,500 from GlobalGiving as our first instalment of funds raised. During the period under review, GLOWA identified five (5) participants of the project. Because the relatively very small amount of money raised, the project teams decided to kickstart the project with only five direct beneficiaries. In this regard the following activities have been carried out during this period

(1)             Identify 5 survivors as participants of the Microentrepreneurship scheme

(2)            Identified two (2) volunteer business mentors to work with the participatory.

(3)            Development of five individual business plans of the five initial beneficiaries through one-on-one intervention with the volunteers

The project shall in the coming weeks finalized the five business plans and provide five micro start-up loans to the beneficiaries

The project is facing a huge challenge based on limited financial resources and the growing insecurity in the project region cause by the Cameroon Anglophone Crisis.
