Smokeless stoves saving lives in 1,250 households

Thank you for your support of the Smokeless Stoves project. 

The volunteers who train as stove installers are the people who roll out the stoves across the county.  Here is one stove installer’s story – her name is Caroline.

Caroline says “Previously I used the traditional three stones open fire and the common challenge is smoke and costs. I could use up to 4 firewood bundles in a week costing 1000 Ksh.’’

Caroline says the smoke caused her chest problems, continuous eye irritation and loss of eye-sight for her mother. Having installed her own smokeless stove she says “Smokeless stoves are the way to go and the community are really happy about them.’’ They are healthier, better for the environment and cost less using just 1 bundle of firewood in a week.  Caroline has more time to spend on her farm.  In 3 months she saved enough money for school fees for one of her children.

She says the people using these stoves have seen benefits and have realised changes in their families.  Some have started small businesses like Caroline who has started poultry keeping, improved kitchen garden and tree farming.
