When we talk about old age in general or nursing homes in particular, we picture a group of miserable older adults abandoned by their loved ones, eventually waiting for the grim reaper. In reality, though the phenomenon is tragic but is not the only truth; how? Just scroll down below and see for yourself.
Upon entering the Nook of Fatima R. A., we see many happy and beautiful women who may be older but are not grumpy. Some are friends, and some are not great friends. Sometimes they get involved in gentle arguments, but all love and respect each other and live together as a family. You might be wondering what does their day look like? Well, below is their daily routine.
Daily Routine
The day starts with them waking up to offer their morning prayers. Around 8 P.M., they have breakfast, and afterwards, they get busy making their beds, cleaning and taking baths. After freshening up, it is time for a chit-chat together while the cook prepares the lunch. Around 1 P.M., lunch is served, followed by prayers/self-care and a nap time. The evenings have their charm when all the ladies sit together, enjoy their tea, chat, share their experiences of life, watch their favourite tv shows, or do nothing at all. The dinner is served around 8 P.M., after which they offer their prayers and go to bed.
This is not all; we arrange exciting activities from time to time for our beloved ladies with their convenience and consent. Below is a glimpse of a few activities:
Iftaar Party at a Restaurant
Ramadan is the month of blessings, prayers, self repentance and some Iftaar parties. It was a fun and refreshing evening at the restaurant, with great food and a lovely environment.
Eid Preparations and Distribution of Gifts
Chaand Raat: the night before Eid is as joyous as Eid itself, especially for the women and children. All the ladies applied henna on their hands (a temporary skin tattoo) the night before Eid. The Eid gifts included new clothes, shoes, bangles, hair accessories etc.
Eid Milan Party
Eid brings happiness, joy, new dresses and delicious food. It was Eid, and we had a blast with our guests and delicious food. All the ladies wore floral bracelets, new clothes, accessories, bangles etc. Anyone can easily spot the glow of happiness on their faces in the pictures.
Breakfast at a Park
Sometimes when life gets too muted and boring at home, we opt for simple outings. This time we concluded with a desi-style halwa poori breakfast (traditional breakfast) and tea in the beautiful greens of the park.
The administration of these nursing homes has clear instructions from Al-Mustafa's management to make all the senior citizens feel at home, and it is safe to say they are doing a great job.
