Completion of Playground

By Sarah VanDoren | Operations Consultant

The playground project was supported by both international and local volunteers from Canada, England, Dubai, and Tanzania, with a team of 11 volunteers, a project manager, and 3 metal fabricators. They upcycled tires from Arusha to create the playground. The first day faced challenges, including a flood that washed away the only bridge leading to the school, requiring 4x4 trucks to access the site. Initially, the children were shy and the school felt quiet, but once the playground was completed, it was filled with laughter and excitement. The Stafford family, including their young boys, worked on the field and connected with local children, learning from each other. Tony, an accredited FA soccer coach, trained the children and sports teachers after the soccer field was finished. The Power of Play and the Stafford Family are very grateful to have had this amazing experience and provide a safe place for the children at the Lakiamba Integrity School and surrounding community to play and be kids.
