RUWAI- Environmental and Climate Action School Clubs was set up to increase education around climate change, ecological degradation and mitigation process.

These student and pupils volunteer are planting 100 fruit trees in the school community to increase environmental education opportunities, as well as provide natural fruits to improve school lunch with healthy nutrition.

It is a way the graduating students are giving back to their community. RUWAI is providing the students with education and tree planting experience and those willing to learn more about tree planting, to combat global warming.

Planting of these trees is also a measure for preventing erosion and heavy winds from destroying school buildings, properties, and life students of the school staff.

In the long run, these trees will help revert land degradation and keep the soil health intact. The is to plant 100 economic trees in the school premises as a legacy of the 2020 set of seniors, also go to other schools to educate students like us on climate impact and ways to curb it.

This goal has not been fully achieved due to Covid19 restrictions, lack of resources and equipment. So we are gathering seeds from pupils and student volunteers since we don’t have all the funds for purchasing seeds and seedlings.

As part of our effort to discourage the single use of polythene bags and plastics, we are picking empty water sachets to set the nursery with. This will reduce pollution, littering, and flooding which come as a result of proper waste disposal.

It also a smart way of educating pupils and students by practically engaging them. So far, we have picked over a 800 seeds and counting. When nurtured in the nurseries, some of the seedlings will be planted in other schools during the inauguration of the Climate Action and Environmental Club in other schools.

This will further accelerate our 50,000 tree goals and #KnowBetterActBetter programme, as well as the Nigeria Government goal to plant over 24million trees to curb global warming.

We are open to sponsorship and partnership from individual and corporate bodies, to help in establishing as many school clubs as possible, as well as training pupils and students in tree and agroforestry culture.

We are also setting up agroforestry demonstration farms in these schools. Through your support, these volunteers who are largely from poor families are provided with transport and a meal each day they come to donate seeds.

We are presently, sourcing for necessary materials and equipment for the establishment of our nursery. More supports from volunteers will go a long way to achieving our goal.
