Dear Friends of YOUPSA,
YOUPSA is working tirelessly to bring opportunities and creative learning with fun to the most vulnerable children in South Africa.
We can only make this possible with your help. Please consider renewing your pledge to our organisation's work. Your support helps to transform childrens' lives. Here are two of many projects we've been working on and pictures from YOUPSA's children.
One of our most recent topics was the Hero in one's life and what qualities a Hero has. Children drew their own Hero and wrote about this special person in their life. Here are some of the things that they said:
'My Hero is my grandmother. She makes me happy and she loves me!'
'The way my Dad treats me is amazing. He is always there for me when I need him. My Dad always respects my feelings.'
'My Hero is my best friend. When other children are not nice to me, I go to my friend. Then she talks to me and says: Don't worry what other people say about you. That's why I love her. She is very important to me.'
'My Hero is my Dad. He helps me with my homework.'
'My Hero is my Mom, because she helps me learn good manners.'
'My Father is my Hero. He is an honest person and he protects me.'
'My mother is my Hero. She is my friend and she has a strong heart.'
YOUPSA is collaborating with Nelson Mandela University (NMU), in Port Elizabeth, on a project at the Gamtoos Valley schools. A lecturer from NMU, Dr. Childs, came to work on wordless picture books (http://collaboratecommunityprojects.org/) with the children of Grade 4 and 5 at 3 schools. First the children discussed the pictures in a wordless picture book and then together they generated their own story text to go with each page. This project has further steps: next, the children review a draft copy and make editing suggestions; then the final copy is printed in color with the name of every child as the authors of the book. These books will then be used as teaching and research material at various education institutions in South Africa.
Please consider continuing to support our Creative Youth Empowerment programmes. Thank you again for helping these children grow and experience a brighter future. We have already achieved 81% of our goal and only have $1496 to go! Your contribution is much appreciated.
We'd love to hear from you!
Warm regards,
the YOUPSA Team
