Happy Holidays from Esperanza Urbana!
A Look at What Your Donation Has Made Possible
Our Rehabilitation project is currently supporting 7 people from the streets in the rehabilitation center!
Once they arrive, each new person is given a hygiene kit, bedding and clean clothes. Each person receives medical attention and gets assistance for legal status getting the necessary paperwork and insurance through Costa Rica government.
All members at the center receive therapies and educational workshops. The recent workshops and therapies included:
Many different volunteers from the community who are trained in these areas come to give these workshops.
People in the center also begin to receive job training to build skills to help them find employment after treatment. This month they helped to develop construction skills right on the property at Generaciones Victoria.
From the Streets to Success: Ronaldo's Story
Here is a story of someone who Esperanza Urbana is supporting from the streets; Meet Ronaldo.
Ronaldo grew up without a supportive family. He felt a lot of anger as a child and began using alcohol and marijuana in sixth grade (11-12 years of age). He left for the coastal city of Limón in Costa Rica to stay with family. There his substance abuse problem got worse, he began to use money from his family members to buy drugs and alcohol. He became estranged from his family in Limón and ended up back in San Jose living on the streets. He lived there for years in fear of going to jail from his substance use and the means he used to be able to pay for drugs .
One evening, Ronaldo met David, the Co-Founder of Esperanza Urbana, during an outreach activity. He received a warm meal and felt supported by our volunteers. Soon after, Ronaldo was accepted into the rehab program with Generaciones Victoria where he is currently working through treatment.
Your generosity helps people like Ronaldo receive the care and the need to come off the streets.
Thank you for your support of Esperanza Urbana!
