Dear Supporters,
Nepal's community project continue to support a range of improvements to facilities. Our support can improve the buildings and structrues of a variety of school and learning centres and this in turn improves the working environment for teachers as well as students. It also makes the community proud of their local school. Education is such a key in the life of every child so facilities should support this.
Throughout this year our funds have been supporting the development of a new Child Care Centre at Male Patan. The project has been steadily progressing and the children are not too far off being able to use the centre. Educational murals have been painted to add to the learning environment and to create an educational focus. The new centre now has toilets and running water as well funded by our donors. The next step is for a kitchen area to be completed to allow for meal preparation. Our funds also support a daily meal for the children at the centre. Once the centre is up and running in its new home we will continue to support the improvement of the facilities by adding learning resources that allow the students to reach their developmental potential. As we know, if children can thrive in the early years, this sets them up for a greater success in education in later years. Resources such as outdoor play equipment to address gross motor development are an example of how we will continue to support the centre.
We have also been supporting a Government School in the village of Pame. Studies have shown that the availability of toilets and access to clean toilets has an effect on school attendance as well as the more obvious health benefits. Every student and staff member should have access to clean and working toilets which have doors to enable privacy. This current project in the village of Pame is to refurbish the toilets. The process involves retiling and repairing allowing running water to the area. Another part of the job is to add a skylight to the toilet block to allow more light. Children in the past have been reluctant to use the area because it is so dark, this will make them more comfortable to access the toilets. Donations have made this project possible and is part of our ongoing support with improving facilities at this school. This ongoing project is much appreciated and respected by members of the community.
Our project will continue to support the women and children in Nepal. An up and coming project is to replace the roof on a local school. At the moment, the monsoon rains mean that there is significant leakage into the class rooms. A new roof will ensure an improved learning environment for all students. The two ongoing projects outlined above will be continued and completed.
We thank all of our donors for their valuable support.
With Gratitude,
GVI Nepal Community Team
