SDG 4: Help All Children Access Education in Nepal

Dear Supporters,

Access to water and clean toilets is the right of every student and staff member in any school around the world.  Unfortunately these two basic rights are not always available and lack of toilet and water facilities can lead to absenteeism meaning valuable learning opportunities are lost.

Recently a project in a rural Govt school led to vast improvements in the bathrooms. Formerly the facilities were dark and had no windows so students feared going inside especially in the darker winter months. Students used to run home to go to the bathroom rather than enter the dark space which they also found unclean. Unfortunately the conditions of the toilets also made them very difficult to keep clean.

Funds from this project allowed for some great improvements to be made. The new bathroom facility consists of two stalls with a toilet in each. They are built in such a way that cleaning is easy and therefore the facilities are far more hygienic. Windows have been built in both stalls so that the staff and students have plenty of light to see.

This improved sanitary facilities goes along with the education programme that is delivered weekly in the school with a focus on handwashing and it’s fantastic to see the students happily accessing the toilet facilities.

Improvements such as this are significant and the funds make a valuable contribution to the lives of both students and their teachers.

This project will continue to contribute to the improvement of bathroom facilities at the Government schools and also support other improvements to school facilities.  Now it’s the dry season it is an ideal time to make improvements such as replacing and repairing leaking roof and repainting classrooms, these are both projects that will be done in the coming months.
