Quarterly Report

By Cheryl | Country Director

Dear Supporters,

As the monsoon season has ended we have been able to continue our outdoor construction work with more confidence. The team have worked hard to continue work at the new Boys Home. This has included plastering, painting and repairs. The team have also continued work at the Government school in Pame where the construction of a surrounding wall is underway and we have also started the construction of shelving for all of the classrooms. The new alphabet murals which were painted over the holidays were enthusiastically received by both students and teachers.

Our teaching programme at the Pame Government school is really taking shape with some great input into the English programme as well as health and hygiene routines. The children and teachers are really appreciating the lunchtime activities as well and are receiving them with great enthusiasm.

At the Boys' Home we have continued to support their daily meals and snacks through the GVI Trust. The individual programmes designed to support the boys are supporting their school curriculum. The boys have enjoyed the opportunity to continue science experiments with our team. They are also always keen to learn new games which is great because it encourages sharing, turn taking and in the case of the younger boys is a great way for them to practise addition.

At the childcare centre we have recently introduced a handwriting programme which focuses on developing fine motor skills in preparation for writing. The children have responded well and the programme has had the added bonus of helping to develop attention and focus in the children.

Our Women's Empowerment programme is always busy with many women keen to participate and improve their English conversation skills. One of the focusses has been working with female trekking guides and developing their confidence in conversation as they lead their clients on a trek. We are always keen to utilise the skills of our volunteers and a recent volunteer also worked with some of the women to teach braiding techniques.

We also made our way back to Bandipur recently where last year one of our school groups supported the building of an Early Learning Centre. We gave the building a fresh coat of paint, tidied the garden and made the school ready for the children after the holidays. It’s amazing what can be achieved in a day!

As the year draws to a close we thank all of our partners, staff and volunteers for their fabulous contributions to our projects.

With love,

GVI Nepal
