Support Early Childhood Development Caregivers

Compliments of the new year from the Education Africa family!

This feels like a full circle moment. At the end of 2022, our amazing Early Childhood Development (ECD) team won the Ntataise Championship trophy – for the second time in a row –  for their work in ECD. This win at the end of 2022, is just another testament of all the hard work our ECD team puts into empowering caregivers in their respective communities. It is also an excellent example of how our ECD team continues to inspire excellence!

The 2022/2023 cohort are well into their 18 month South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), and Ntataise approved training. The ECD programme focuses on training quality ECD practitioners to fill the gap in South Africa's foundational learning landscape - particularly in under-resourced communities. Quality foundational education is essential if South Africa's children are to be prepared for a meaningful, and successful, learning experience later in life. Unfortunately, for many young children around South Africa, this is precisely what they will miss out on due to poorly trained teachers and a lack of resources (among other things). Education Africa's ECD team is on a mission to change that with a programme designed to address the realities facing South Africa's ECD landscape as well as overcome them.

We’re well into the year and our ECD Team have been hard at work. The ECD programme continues to focus on training quality ECD practitioners to fill the gap in South Africa's foundational learning landscape - particularly in under-resourced communities. Our ECD Interns have also acclimatised and have been a wonderful addition to the Education Africa family.

The past few months for the ECD team have been filled with challenges as well as fun days. However, one of the things we also found value in was the act of giving back. In South Africa, July is Youth month but it also when we celebrate Tata Nelson Mandela’s impact and try to emulate that.  This year on Nelson Mandela Day, we transformed a preschool in Orange Farm from two classrooms that were empty shells into well-resourced areas of learning (and fun!). Our Education Africa teams are always at the coalface of “Making real change Happen” by providing “Poverty alleviation through Education”. 

While we will always find value in impacting communities, we also thought we’d have a day of healing and bonding for our ECD trainees. It was a day where the women who we empower, were made to feel valued and be reminded of the powerful forces that they are. They are excelling in their training, and we are so proud of them here at Education Africa.
