We are excited to share with you the latest addition to our fleet of Maternal & Child Health Centers in the Northern Areas of Pakistan!
On May 3, 2024, in conjunction with the Azad Kashmir Department of Health, HOPE launched a MCHC in Chakhama, Azad Kashmir. This facility will provide 24/7 healthcare (with a special focus on maternal and child services) to the surrounding village population.
The Azad Kashmir Department of Health has donated a vacant facility and medical supplies in order to propel this project forward. HOPE will be contributing their expertise in terms of medical staff for this endeavor.
Maternal and Infant Mortality is adversely high in Pakistan due to various factors including high poverty rates as well as the general lack of government-sponsored interventions for the poor. It is not surprising that in remote and rural areas this problem is further compounded due to the dearth of healthcare facilities in these regions - traditionally mothers in the Northern Areas of Pakistan have given birth in their homes. Unfortunately, when labor complications have arisen, healthcare facilities are often too far away to access in a timely manner. And even if facilities are present, most villagers cannot afford basic human rights such as healthcare .
HOPE has taken the window of opportunity to bridge the gap in the well-researched fact that 33% of Maternal deaths and 80% of Infant deaths in Pakistan are preventable. We have made it a priority to save precious lives. To date, we honored to report that with this latest addition, we currently operate a total of 11 MCHCs, 4 Hospitals, 1 Basic Health Unit, and 2 Mobile Health Units throughout Pakistan.
