The initiative has been successful in implementing psychosocial interventions in Local Government Authorities (LGAs), receiving substantial demand from residents and community leaders.
The elderly women have provided 75 sessions of one-on-one counseling as part of the weekly community-based interventions. These were implemented in LGAs and proved quite successful, with great demand from the residents and community leaders alike. TEWWY has been focusing on advocacy to raise awareness on mental health issues and to ensure mental health is on the national agenda. We hope this leads to improvements in policy, legislation, and service development.
More efforts are being put towards fundraising to support and sustainably implement psychosocial interventions in LGAs. We aim to continue building the capacity of teachers and elderly women to enhance help-seeking efficacy and reduce stigma associated with mental health.
