The delivery of affordable and quality healthcare at the Mabati medical centre has continued to have positive impact in the lives of communities in the coastal region of Kenya. The Mabati Medical Centre attended to 11,455 patients since January 2022. Additionally, 3100 laboratory tests and 1,000 radiology examinations have been conducted to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the patients. The increase in the number of patients visiting the facility is an indication that communites around Mariakani value and appreciate the services offered at our Medical centre.
To promote preventive healthcare services, the medical team conducted cervical cancer awareness in January, reaching 334 women and also organized a children's dental health awareness outreach in February in one of the neighbouring community schools. A total of 900 pupils were reached and 1,066 dental cleaning items consisting of toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste were distributed to the pupils. In March 2022, the medical staff conducted an arthritis awareness campaign and screened 100 people. Such outreaches promote early diagnosis and treatment.
To enhance the skills of our medical staff and those from the neighbouring medical facilities ,our medical staff joined hands with the Ministry of Health officials to facilitate trainings through the Kenya Ministry of Health Virtual Academy. The trainings were on safe maternity care and use of portable radiology services in remote locations. The virtual training program is one of the innovations adopted to provide opportunities for medical staff to build their capacities to improve service delivery to our patients. We will continue to engage with key stakeholders in the private and public sectors in the coming months to increase access to quality and affordable care to needy families in the neighbouring communities.
To mitigate the adverse effects of Covid -19 pandemic, a consultative engagement with Health workers from various medical facilities in Mariakani was organized at the medical centre. The meeting discussed strategies for increasing Covid -19 vaccine uptake and support to health workers to reduce the spread of common infectious diseases in Kilifi county. We are are also delighted to report that our facility has been approved by the Ministry of Health to continue administering covid-19 vaccines and training of community workers and our patients to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
