BICYCLE SCHOLARSHIP FOR POOR STUDENTS
Meet Leakena, a 16-year-old grade 9 student at Svay Chek lower secondary school. Thanks to This Life Cambodia, she received a life-changing gift - a bike!
Leakena's studies and day-to-day life have improved tremendously ever since she started biking to school. Gone are the days of a 30-minute walk, now replaced by a quick 5 to 10-minute bike ride.
With her new bike, Leakena is not only excited to attend high school next year, but also determined to become a teacher and contribute to the Cambodian education system. This is crucial because her current school has limited resources, with only 12 teachers for 318 students. Leakena's dreams of becoming a teacher could truly make a difference.
But that's not all! Leakena's bike has an even bigger impact - it's a game-changer for her family too. With her high school being 14 kilometers away, the bike significantly reduces travel time. And on weekends, her parents borrow the bike to swiftly go to the market and bring food for Leakena and her younger sister.
Leakena's story highlights the power of a simple bike to transform lives and empower communities.
Let's celebrate her determination and the positive change she's bringing to education in Cambodia!
