We are pleased to share that Cheka Sana are soon to start their third cohort of the StreetBorn programme. Thanks to the generosity of Amos Trust's supporters, we have been able to support 72 young women and girls through this programme in the last two years, and Cheka Sana's team are soon beginning work with a new group.
The programme this year aims to reach 30 young mothers or girls at risk of early pregnancy living or working on the streets of Mwanza, Tanzania. The outreach teams meet them on the street and build trust first, before young women choose whether or not they want to become a part of the programme. They are provided with healthcare support (sexual health screening, antenatal care if pregnant, and a health care card helping them to access primary care facilities for free). They have weekly individual and group psychosocial support sessions, life skills and self-defence training, and small business training support. This provides vital skills and tools in income generation which young women to become self-sufficient, and more able to provide for themselves and their child, without needing to rely on sex work.
Please continue to support this vital work helping young mothers and girls living on the street in Tanzania the opportunity to build a more secure future.
