By Sriyantha Perera | Settlor, Rainforest Protectors Trust
During the last quarter, Rainforest Protectors Trust added an additional 6 acres of formerly privately owned forest land into the Protected Buffer Zone of Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest. With this acquisition and conversion of private forest land into conservation forest, Rainforest Protectors Trust has added a total of 30 acres of primary forest to the Protected Buffer Zone as of November 2023. Through the creation of the Protected Buffer Zone, we will be able to significantly reduce encroachment and illegal activities including poaching and deforestation within Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest.
In addition to monitoring the existing protected forest land, Rainforest Guardians will be engaged in several other tasks in the upcoming months, including boundary demarcation and biodiversity assessment. This Giving Tuesday (November 28), GlobalGiving will match your donations to the Rainforest Conservation and Education Center. It's a perfect opportunity to amplify your gift to protect Sinharaja Rainforest and we urge you to mark your calendar and make a donation to the project on Giving Tuesday November 28, 2023.
