Today we are thrilled to share some exciting news regarding the microbusiness incubator with all of our supporters!

We are delighted to announce that Business for Better Society has been awarded for this project one of ten Catalyst Scale-Up grants from The Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (The RSA). The RSA is a global organisation, headquartered in London, UK, with a rich history of over 260 years in driving social impact. Their mission, as expressed in their founding charter, is to "embolden enterprise, enlarge science, refine art, improve our manufacturers and extend our commerce, with a strong focus on alleviating poverty."

The RSA's Scaling Awards are designed to support projects that have already demonstrated a positive impact and "aim to reach new beneficiaries, deepen the impact on existing beneficiaries, or explore ways to become more financially sustainable". Through this prestigious grant, we will be able to expand our microbusiness incubator and empower an additional 90 women in the Homa Bay region.

The work made possible through this grant has already started with the three new cohorts located in:

  1. Sofia Estate
  2. Nyalkinyi Estate
  3. Shauri Yako Estate

Shauri Yako and Sofia Estates are among the largest slum communities in Homa Bay, where residents face significant challenges due to extremely high poverty rates. Nyalkinyi Estate, located on the edge of Homa Bay, is characterized by relatively lower levels of knowledge and formal education.

All three cohorts have successfully completed their orientation sessions and the first four modules of the Street Business School program. These modules include "Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone," "Business Opportunity Identification & Market Research," "Finding Capital and Starting Small," and "Bookkeeping." The progress and dedication of our participants are truly inspiring!

Receiving this grant from The RSA is a monumental achievement for our project. It validates our ongoing efforts to end generational poverty and empowers more women in Homa Bay to achieve financial independence and transform their lives.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support, which has played a crucial role in making this achievement possible. Your contributions have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of these women, their children, and their communities.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you as we continue to expand and enhance our microbusiness incubator. Thank you for being a part of this journey towards creating a better society for all!
