What are CNBGuatemala.org users consulting?

By Edgar Barillas | OLI Board President

Guatemala's online curriculum (CNBGuatemala.org) is visited by more than 200,000 users every month (graphic 1). In previous reports, the Online Learning Initiative (OLI) has shared with donors and fans exciting statistics showing the rapid increase in the number of users, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. National administrators of educational resources and cooperations agencies, however, have also shown interest in knowing what pages and resources are users consulting. OLI’s research commission runned queries in Google Analytics and spreadsheets to answer this question. Users in Guatemala -around half of CNBGuatemalta.org users- are mainly consulting root pages of the national curriculum such as the curricular matrices that describe what they are expected to teach (table 1). Meanwhile, users outside Guatemala are consulting educational resources not related with Guatemala’s base curriculum but rather material of more general educational interest (table 2). This poses an interesting challenge: how to serve our original constituency, and at the same time prepare to provide content to a rapidly growing international community?

Your support keeps CNBGuatemala.org updated and running, benefiting thousands of teachers and millions of children in Guatemala. Increasingly it also helps teachers and students in other countries in Latin America. This is already a significant achievement; but your donations are also contributing to make sense of the data we gather. Now we need to go further and, without compromising personal information of our users, prepare for a rapidly expanding and diversifying audience. Please accept our thanks for your help, but also share this story with your family and friends. We need all the help we can find!
