Greetings from St Martins school and the Kibagare community.
It has been an Okay few weeks since our last update, though the economic situation in the country and by extension the slum has not improved, and with the year coming to a close nothing much will change.
Children are home for a two-month holiday. This will have a significant impact on the families and children going back to the slum. As a school, we continue to do the much we can for the community here in the hope that the much we do will impact the children and their families positively.
Most of the households in the slum do not have a stable income though some guardians and women are into small businesses to help sustain themselves. The small businesses are not doing very well but at least they have something to do and the little they get is used to feed their families. Due to the challenges faced in doing small businesses, we are encouraging creativity and diversification of small businesses to help them stay afloat.
We continue to offer interventions for the community here and we still need support in terms of funding and ideas on how to uplift the lives of the people in this community. We have made it this far thanks to the support we have received and continue to receive and we are more than grateful..
We will continue to send regular updates on our progress.
Best regards,
Alfred Aswan
