The Problem: Smoky Stoves and Unhealthy Air

Imagine cooking dinner, but the smoke from your stove makes it hard to breathe. That's what it's like for many people in Nepal. They use traditional stoves that burn wood, charcoal, or animal dung. These stoves release harmful smoke, like carbon monoxide, which can make people really sick.

Health Problems: Lots of women and children in Nepal get sick and even die from breathing in this smoky air.
Climate Change: The smoke from these stoves also contributes to climate change, which makes our planet warmer and causes other problems.
Unhealthy Clinics: Even the local health clinics use energy sources that release harmful emissions.

The Solution: Clean Energy and Healthy Cooking

Some clever people are working to solve these problems by bringing clean energy to the communities. Here's how:

Solar Power: They're installing solar panels to provide electricity for lights, fans, and important medical equipment like nebulizers and refrigerators for medicine. This means the clinics can run without polluting the air.
Improved Cookstoves: They're teaching local people how to build and use special cookstoves that are much cleaner and more efficient. These stoves use less fuel and produce less smoke, which is better for people's health and the environment.
Making it Affordable: They're making sure these clean cookstoves are affordable for everyone, especially those who have the least amount of money.
Teaching local people: They are teaching the community about climate change, and how they can help.

The Goal: A Healthier, Greener Future

These efforts are making a big difference for the people in the Surkhet District of Nepal. Here's what they hope to achieve:

Improved Health: They want to improve the health of over 4,728 people by giving them access to cleaner air and better healthcare.
Sustainable Communities: They want to help these communities become more independent and sustainable by using renewable energy.
Climate Action: They want to teach people about climate change and how they can help protect the planet.
Spreading the word: They want to train local people to teach others about the benefits of cleaner energy.

This project is important because it shows how we can solve health problems and climate change at the same time. By using clean energy and improving cooking methods, we can make a big difference for people's lives and the environment.

Improving Access to Healthcare

Dear Supporters,

As we reflect on the progress made in the last quarter, we are reminded of the deep connection between the health of our planet and the well-being of its people. Thanks to your continued generosity, we are steadily advancing our mission in Nepal, where the challenge of inadequate energy solutions is being met with innovation and hope.

The Challenge:

In our last update, we shared the heartbreaking reality that 8,500 women and children in Nepal are annually affected by the harmful emissions from traditional cooking stoves. These stoves, while essential to daily life in rural areas, pose a serious health risk. Additionally, the vast off-grid communities in the Surkhet District continue to struggle with unreliable energy sources, limiting access to basic healthcare services and opportunities for sustainable development.

But where there is challenge, there is also opportunity—and we are seizing it together. In this quarter, we've made significant strides in implementing renewable energy solutions and enhancing healthcare access for those in need:

1. Renewable Energy Deployment

We’ve successfully fundraised for 3 new solar panels, we ust need to raise funds for 2 more and then we can hook up a rural health clinic to power for the first time, this will mean we can the fundraise for fridges and start to stock essential medications as well as have lights and resorurcs for the whole centre.

3. Clean Stove Enhancement

Our team are currently looking at alternative tove options for the home and getting costings for us to roll out in 2025, until then our team has been busy holding community events to talk about fires and carbon in the home and encouraging people to cook outside the home in the short term.

As we head into the next quarter, our focus will be on scaling our renewable energy efforts and expanding our health initiatives. We plan to install more solar-power and find a new solution to the stoves and cooking.

Together, we are proving that the smallest spark can indeed ignite a revolution of change. Thank you for being a part of this journey.

Building A New Centre in Nepal

Our planet’s health is intricately tied to our own well-being. In the heart of Nepal, where the air hangs heavy with both promise and peril, a transformative project is taking root. Let’s explore how we’re lighting the way toward a healthier future.

The Crisis

Cooking Stoves and Tragedy: Each year, approximately 8,500 women and children in Nepal face a silent menace—the effects of polluting cooking stoves. These stoves emit harmful smoke, silently claiming lives.

Off-Grid Communities: In the Surkhet District, where electricity is scarce, communities live off the grid. Their resilience is admirable, but their health suffers due to inadequate energy sources.

Our Mission

Renewable Energy: We’re introducing renewable energy solutions to these off-grid communities. Solar panels, wind turbines, and sustainable practices will replace the smoke-filled stoves.

Healthcare Transformation: Clean energy isn’t just about light; it’s about life. With reliable power, we can enhance healthcare facilities, refrigerate vaccines, and provide better medical services.

Sustainability and Independence: By getting communities off the grid, we empower them. Independence means dignity. Sustainability means resilience.
