Hello GlobalGivers,
Late last year, as monsoon floodwaters began rising in the Chao Phraya and Mekong River basins of Thailand, your donation to GlobalGiving’s Thailand Flood Relief Fund sponsored immediate disaster assistance to the people of Thailand through the work of five nonprofit organizations. Your donations helped to get food, medical supplies, and sanitary products to those who needed them most; and helped to rebuild damaged schools and the supply chains of local artisans once the floodwaters had receded.
This month, we’d like to profile the Blanket Them With Love project of Foundation for Life, a Thai organization based in Bangkok. In addition to providing relief packs to evacuees during the floods, Blanket Them With Love distributed blankets to 700 families, protecting vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly from the approaching cold season. They did more, too:
In June, Jacqueline Lee, a GlobalGiving IntheField Traveler, visited the home of one family that received assistance from Foundation for Life. Two members of the family were older parents who had suffered strokes before the flooding began, and had to evacuate the ground level of their home when the waters began rising overnight. Foundation for Life responded by sending volunteers with emergency supplies to the family where they were staying in the upstairs portion of their home. Foundation for Life continues to check on the family to this day.
Since the waters have receded, Foundation for Life has distributed funds for the repair of 19 homes that had been inundated with water. These funds were used to repair homes that experienced damage to home appliances, furniture, house structure, and rice farms. Click here to see a video of rice farmland affected by the floods (the water in the distance is left over from the flood).
In preparation for the upcoming monsoon season, Foundation for Life, through the Blanket Them With Love project, is working with local volunteers to knit 600 caps and raise funds for 600 blankets for emergency relief. Thus far, they’ve collected 66 caps—and only have 534 to go!
Thanks again for your generous donation in support of the people affected by flooding in Thailand. If you would like to help Foundation for Life and other disaster relief organizations prepare for the upcoming monsoon season in Thailand, please consider making a donation to the Thailand Flood Relief Fund today.
Thanks for all that you do!
Cheers,
Mattie

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
