I'm delighted to inform you that the Kerala Corridor Project is now fully funded! All of us at VFAES are deeply grateful to you for your unending support. We couldn't have done this without your generosity and commitment to our cause!
With the escalating COVID cases in many countries, our world has changed so much in four months. We can only hope that people are learning to respect the natural world and wildlife more than ever before! You may be aware that India now has the 3rd largest number of COVID cases, having surpassed 1,000,000 just today, only next to the USA and Brazil. The number of deaths are also on the rise in these three countries.
Given the uncertainties surrounding the travels, we estimate that the official purchase and transfer of land will be delayed. We have no control on this, as you'd understand. However, the reality is, human-elephant-conflict continues to escalate and intensify by the day! In fact, between April and May 30 elephants had been massacred and I've launched a petition to the PM ... and you can CLICK HERE TO SIGN THE PETITION
Now more than ever before we need to continue to do everything we can to curb this insanity and protect elephants!
Meanwhile, I have some good news for you --- one of the top retired forest officials of Kerala is committed to enriching the plantation land with native and endemic biodiversity, and is re-wilded for the elephants. So we have someone committed and reliable on the ground to make our collective dream of creating a safe passage for elephants, a reality.
Another good news is that we've now partnered with a grassroots organization in India, with whom we will continue to work to mitigate human elephant conflict. You can find out more about what we are doing by clicking here: Project Flash the Light to Save Elephants
Once again, our heartfelt gratitude for your immense generosity and unending support! Onward we march, holding each others hands, lending our voices, hearts and souls to protect our most cherished elephants.
Sincerely,
Sangita
