By Joyce Manchester | Project Leader, Safer World Fund
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently stated: "There can be no peace without development … no development without peace." With that in mind, each one of us should be hustling to promote development in Central Asia, where both Afghanistan and Pakistan remain among the least developed countries in the world. According to the United Nation’s Human Development Index using data from 2012, Pakistan ranks #146 and Afghanistan ranks #175 out of 187 countries in the Index.
The Safer World Fund supports a few hand-picked nonprofits that strive every day to encourage advances in health, education, and training for people in Afghanistan and Pakistan, especially women and girls. As you can see from the list of nonprofits below, many girls are going to school, many women are being trained, and many people are receiving health care as the result of your contributions. Those investments in girls and boys, women and men, will help open opportunities for living in peace and fulfillment.

Even though the matching funds are now depleted, there remains much important work to be done. Please consider a donation to The Safer World Fund or a gift card for your best friend’s birthday, your niece’s graduation from college, or some other special occasion this spring. And please find an opportunity to talk with your family, neighbors, and friends about the key role of development in promoting peace.
