Good news on girls' education in Afghanistan

Good news about girls’ education has come from Afghanistan recently. First, Dr. Sakena Yacoobi received the WISE Prize for Education at the seventh World Innovation Summit for Education this month. Dr. Yacoobi is the founder and executive director of the Afghan Institute of Learning, one of the project sponsors in The Safer World Fund. AIL brings education and health services to rural and marginalized areas of Afghanistan.

Second, the Gawhar Khatoon school in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, opened recently to serve 3,000 girls. It has been called "both a local success and a national symbol,” that “acts as a model and inspiration for further initiatives to flourish." Designed by two Seattle architects with a vision for beautiful and sustainable design, it features handmade windows, breezeways that encourage natural ventilation and a private courtyard for girls to play sports. Sahar was a major partner in the project and also sponsors projects in The Safer World Fund.

Thank you for supporting girls’ education in Afghanistan through The Safer World Fund. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors!
