To Our Valued Community of Supporters,

We want to share an important update regarding the Threads of Transformation program in Goma, DR Congo.

In recent weeks, the security situation in the region has worsened significantly, with armed conflict now reaching Goma and its surrounding areas. Given these developments, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily suspend all program activities including the Threads of Transformation program.

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our local nonprofit partner, Remember Youth for Change, and all apprentices participating in the program. With current conditions making it unsafe to travel within Goma and gather at the Remember Youth for Change office, continuing program activities at this time is not feasible.

Our Ongoing Commitment

While operations are on hold, we are working on:

1. Refining the Phase Two curriculum: This phase builds on the foundation set during the Autumn 2024 program, where apprentices explored the design process and fostered creativity. The next stage will refine their skills in quality craftsmanship and market standards, preparing them for professional opportunities.
2. Maintaining close contact with our local partner to stay informed on developments in Goma and ensure the safety of the Remember Youth for Change team, the apprentices, and all those connected to our community.
3. Assessing Alternative Engagement Strategies: Identifying ways to keep the apprentices engaged, if feasible, through digital resources, self-guided projects, or storytelling initiatives.
4. Advocacy & Awareness Efforts: Raising awareness of the crisis in Goma by sharing updates with supporters and our global audience to amplify the voices of those affected.
5. Planning for a Smooth Program Relaunch: Establishing a clear roadmap for resuming activities when conditions allow, ensuring apprentices can pick up where they left off with minimal disruption.

Looking Ahead

We remain fully committed to this program. Your generous support, particularly during last December's Giving Tuesday campaign, has been instrumental in building the foundation for this initiative, and we will ensure that the program continues.
